Art Islands TOKYO 2015

Art Islands TOKYO 2015 artist residency, Izu Ōshima (Oshima Island)

Works created:

- Feels Cinema, a performance installation for one person (made with cardboard boxes from local supermarkets, and a strong desire for privacy)

- Hige Dansu (dance of the moustache), participatory performance event

- Rot, series of performance installation experiments in outdoor spaces.

These works emerged in response to my social experiences of being a queer and non-binary introvert within a cultural environment where privacy is not a built-in given of everyday life. Also strongly present in my making processes were the sensations and impressions of dancing in relation to place, Izu Ōshima, with its dramatic geological features, stories, atmospheres, weather, humidity and tendencies to mould, to rot.
